Minister: recent rainfall ups agricultural water reserve to 70pct
The recent downpour raised the reserve of farm dams and harvesting pits to 70 percent of their overall capacity amid ministry efforts to address the repercussions of climate change on the agricultural sector.
During the opening speech of a dialogue session with the private sector and media outlets, Minister of Agriculture Khaled Hneifat said Wednesday that the ministry is looking to carry out a comprehensive national water harvesting project to address the ramifications of climate change, namely water scarcity due to fluctuating rainfall.
To that end, the ministry has expanded water harvesting and water-saving projects and granted green energy loans for projects and agricultural industries, he continued. He noted that 63 farm dams and harvesting pits were constructed in 2022, bringing their total to 163 water-harvesting methods.
