Aqaba received 1.9 million tourists during the past 11 months, according to, the Commissioner for Environment and Tourism in the Aqaba Authority, Nidal Majali.
'During the past 11 months, Aqaba received about 1.9 million tourists, and this number is distinguished and active,' Majali said, noting that 'more than 931,000 reservations have been made in Aqaba hotels”.
During the past week, Aqaba received 3 ships, and it is expected that “the Sunday ship” will also arrive at the cruise ship marina, carrying about 1,600 tourists, according to Majali.
He described the tourism movement towards the “Golden Triangle - Petra, Wadi Rum and Aqaba” as 'good', except that 'hotel occupancy rates are modest, as it comes during the current holiday period (Christmas and New Year's holidays) and the accompanying return of families in all countries of the world and the meeting between them.”
Aqaba is looking forward to receiving 96 cruise ships next year, 'an increase of up to 25% over what we received during the current year,' according to Majali.
