King at Baghdad Conference: "challenges facing us are many, getting more complicated"
His Majesty King Abdullah II welcomed the participants in 'Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership' in Jordan, expressing his pride and the people of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan for hosting the conference.
In his opening speech, His Majesty said that the meeting represents an opportunity to build on the outcomes of the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership, which was held last year, and to reaffirm our support for Iraq's efforts to continue its path towards development and prosperity and to enhance its security and stability.
His Majesty stressed that Jordan believes in the region's need for stability, just and comprehensive peace, and regional cooperation, especially in the economic and development fields, and addressing issues of poverty and unemployment, and that facing our common challenges requires collective action, whose positive effects our peoples will see.
His Majesty added that “it is necessary to mention the cooperation projects between Jordan and Iraq in addition to the Arab brothers, whether in the sectors of energy, industry or transportation, which were strengthened through the tripartite cooperation mechanism between us in Jordan and the brothers in Egypt and Iraq.”
His Majesty said, 'We realize that the challenges facing us are many and getting more complex, but we also believe that this conference is being held in order to serve our common interests, to ensure Iraq's security, prosperity and stability are a cornerstone of our region, and we look forward to continuing to work with you to deepen our partnerships in the service of our peoples.'
