Eastern Military Zone thwarts attempt to smuggle drugs
The Eastern Military Zone thwarted, at Wednesday sawn an attempt to infiltrate and smuggle 'large' quantities of narcotic substances coming from the Syrian territories.
This achievement came as part of efforts made by Jordan Armed Forces (JAF) -Arab Army, to maintain the Kingdom's security and stability and protect its borders.
In a press statement, an official military source at JAF General Command said front-line surveillance patrols of border guard forces, in coordination with Anti-Narcotics Department (AND), detected an attempt by a group of smugglers to cross Jordan's border illegally from Syrian territory.
Rapid response patrols rushed to the site and applied rules of engagement by directly firing at smugglers, which pushed them to retreat into the Syrian territories, the source said.
After intensively searching the area, 196 palm-sized sheets of hashish and 610,000 Captagon pills were found, which were transferred to the competent authorities.
The source emphasized that the JAF continues to deal 'firmly' with any threat on Jordan's border areas, adding that any endeavors intended to undermine and destabilize the Kingdom's security and terrorize its citizens will be thwarted.
