HRH Princess Dina Mired Patronizes the UN Celebration of International Day
HRH Princess Dina Mired sponsored the celebration held by the United Nations in Jordan, Today, Saturday, in the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) on the occasion of the UN World Day, in the presence of the Minister of Social Development Ayman Al-Mufleh.
HRH praised the efforts of the United Nations staff to take into account the values of humanitarian principles and human rights.
UN Resident Coordinator (RC) in Jordan, Dominic Bartsch, said in his speech, that the UN has a long-standing relationship with the Jordanian people, and that today's celebration is an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to continue supporting Jordan, providing assistance to the most vulnerable people, and accelerating the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
He pointed out that the UN will soon sign a new five-year cooperation framework with the Jordanian government, which will focus on inclusion, address weaknesses and sustainability.
And the Secretary-General of the UN, Antonio Guterres, said in a video message on the occasion, that 'the UN is the product of the hope that was raised in the aftermath of the Second World War, and the determination that strengthened it, in order to overcome global rivalry and cross over to the land of global cooperation.' “Our organization today is going through a test it has never faced, but the UN was born for moments like these, so now, more than ever, we need to revive the values and principles of the UN Charter in every corner of the globe,” Guterres added.
The UN in Jordan revived its celebration with the participation of 18 resident agencies, in cooperation with the (GAM), during an open day that included an exhibition on the work of the various agencies in Jordan, a bazaar for the products of beneficiaries of various UN programs and projects in Jordan, in addition to interactive and educational activities and theatrical and artistic performances.
UN Day falls on October 24 of each year since 1945 on which the Charter of the UN entered into force. UN Day, celebrated each year, provides the opportunity to reaffirm the purposes and principles of the Charter of the UN that have guided the Organization since its founding.
