1 Palestinian killed, 16 injured in Israeli army raid
Israeli troops Tuesday shot and killed a Palestinian and injured 16 others, one seriously, as they opened fire during an army raid in Jenin, north of the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian Health Ministry said.
It said army jeeps stormed the city from several directions, closing entrances and deploying in neighborhoods of the city while army sharpshooters took to rooftops of key buildings.
Soldiers took over a building in Al Bustan neighborhood and held a number of youth inside a sports club. Another apartment building in the eastern quarter of Jenin was seized and an apartment, which belonged to a man who carried out an attack in Tel Aviv in April, was bombed, according to Palestinian sources.
The early morning raid triggered clashes between local youth and troops across the city, in which 29-year-old Mohammad Sabaneh was fatally shot and 16 other people were in injured, including one who suffered serious wounds and a girl who was hit in the jaw.
