The overall pass rate in the 2021/2022 General Secondary Education Certificate Examination (Tawjihi) stood at 63.1 percent, announced Minister of Education Wajih Owais on Thursday.
The minister told a press conference that no student achieved a full score this year as a result of the ministry's decision to replace multiple-choice questions with open-ended questions in order to 'measure students' abilities.'
In response to questions from reporters, Owais said that 10 percent of registered students did not show up for the exam, noting that this is not an uncommon occurrence.
The ministry, he added, decided to honor six Tawjihi students who passed away by presenting their families with an honorary Tawjihi certificate.
