Public Security Department (PSD) Director Maj. Gen. Hussein Hawatmeh on Thursday instructed the Director of the Correctional and Rehabilitation Centers Department to honor 22 inmates who passed the General Secondary School Certificate (Tawjihi) exam and allowed them to meet their families on this special occasion.
Hawatmeh said the move came in recognition of the inmates' efforts, resolve and commitment to personal development despite their 'exceptional circumstances' in rehabilitation centers.
Enabling prisoners to pursue their studies and integrate into society armed with knowledge and vocational skills is part of a comprehensive reform policy adopted by the PSD, he stated.
The Correctional and Rehabilitation Centers Department and the Ministry of Education have worked together to set an atmosphere suitable for inmates wanting to apply for the test. Out of 83 prisoners who took the test, 22 passed, and one got a score of 83.58 out of 100.
