Man handed 8-year prison sentence for molesting minor
The Court of Cassation has upheld a November 2021 Criminal Court ruling, sentencing a man to eight years in prison after convicting him of molesting a girl in Amman in October 2019.
The court declared the defendant guilty of molesting the 11-year-old girl twice while at a shop in the Jubeiha neighbourhood on October 2 and handed him the maximum sentence.
Court papers said the victim went to a shop to buy some items for the house.
While the victim was inside the defendant molested her, according to the court papers.
“The victim managed to escape his grip, but he pulled back inside and molested her again,” the court papers added.
The victim immediately notified her family and they alerted the police, court papers added.
The Criminal Court’s attorney general asked the higher court to uphold the sentence against the defendant 'because the punishment he received was proper'.
The defendant did not appeal his verdict at a higher court.
The higher court ruled that the Criminal Court proceedings were accurate and that the defendant was given the appropriate punishment.
