Local sources' contribute 28pct to overall energy mix - minister
Local sources have contributed 28 percent to the total energy mix, while renewable energy has contributed 26 percent and natural gas has contributed 73 percent, according to Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Kharabsheh.
The minister made the remark during a meeting of the recently-formed Public-Private Partnership (PPP) council, during which participants discussed cooperation mechanisms within the framework of the ministry's efforts to harmonize initiatives and projects under the Economic Modernization Vision, in addition to means of addressing challenges facing the private sector in the energy field.
Kharabsheh stressed the importance of this partnership to overcome challenges, pointing to energy initiatives, including a road map to switch to renewable and alternative energy, developing power stations and boosting regional electric interconnection.
He also pointed to other initiatives that are underway, including mining projects, conducting feasibility studies to provide a suitable investment environment, leveraging technology to reduce carbon footprint, achieve energy efficiency and develop the overall energy infrastructure.
