PSD Chief: Anti-drug efforts to be stepped up country-wide
Public Security Directorate Director General Hussein Hawatmeh said Monday that anti-drug efforts are being stepped up countrywide with intensified raids of traffickers' hideouts in an ongoing crackdown against 'those trading in citizens' lives'.
Saying 'we are waging a daily war against the plague of drugs', Hawatmeh ordered the Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) to set up new fully-staffed and equipped divisions nationwide to ensure adequate security coverage and intensify operational and intelligence efforts in pursuit of traffickers.
'The achievements made over the past years to eliminate this plague that all countries of the world suffer from, should galvanize us to move forward to develop and update our methods to keep pace with a change in criminal styles and patterns', he said during a meeting with AND personnel.
He also directed the expansion of treatment facilities for drug addiction, and called for setting up new treatment centers in the north and south of the Kingdom to supplement the work of the main treatment facility in Amman and provide assistance to those seeking treatment.
