Education minister, Canadian international development minister talk cooperation
Minister of Education Wajih Owais met Canadian Minister of International Development Harjit Sajjan on Sunday to discuss joint work and cooperation priorities, mainly the Syrian refugee crisis and the Canadian experience in vocational education.
During a meeting attended by Canada's ambassador Donica Pottie, Owais spoke about the heavy strain on Jordan's infrastructure as a result of the Syrian refugee crisis, particularly in the education and health sectors, and expressed gratitude for Canadian assistance in these areas.
He cited a ministry-wide education development plan that was put into place in a number of areas, including vocational education, with the goal of preparing human cadres that are educated, qualified, and skilled enough to compete in local and international labor markets.
The minister thanked Ambassador Pottie for her significant role in strengthening ties between the two countries.
The Canadian minister, for his part, praised Jordan for taking in refugees and reaffirmed that his nation would continue to assist the Kingdom in this endeavor.
