The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Jordan and the Higher Population Council (HPC) on Monday observed World Population Day, which falls on July 11.
This year's theme was 'A World of 8 Billion: Towards a Resilient Future for All - Harnessing Opportunities and Ensuring Rights and Choices for All.'
Enshrah Ahmed, head of the UNFPA office in Jordan, said that World Population Day is an opportunity to reaffirm the need to find solutions that benefit society and enable individuals to exercise their rights, including reproductive rights.
'This year is significant for the UNFPA because the world's population has reached 8 billion,' she added. Because human rights are the foundation of development, she stated that the fund's message for this year is centered on equal opportunities for all.
She emphasized that investing in people paves the way for diverse and successful communities that support and shield human and reproductive health rights from prejudice and violence.
People under the age of 34 make up the majority of the world's population, according to UN Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator Ghulam Mohammad Isaczai, emphasizing the importance of investing in youth and involving them in supporting the future.
