Director General of the Department of Palestinian Affairs (DPA), Rafiq Kharfan, and his accompanying delegation, on Sunday participated in the 108th round of the Conference of Supervisors on Palestinian Affairs in the Host Arab Countries, at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo.
Addressing the meeting, Kharfan referred to the Jordanian government's 'firm and clear' position, based on the King's directives, on making the Palestinian cause as the Kingdom's top priority.
This stance, he added, was also reiterated in His Majesty's recent speech at Jeddah Summit for Security and Development in Saudi Arabia, which stressed the importance of reaching a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue on the basis of the two-state solution and establishment of their independent state.
In addition, Kharfan affirmed the government's continued support for the Palestinians' steadfastness in Jerusalem and its efforts to counter any Israeli attempt to change the city's historical and legal status quo, in confirmation of its religious role in protecting Jerusalem's holy sites within the Hashemite custodianship.
The government, he said, continues its attention aimed to improve Palestinian refugees' living, service and development conditions in Jordan.
This effort is reflected in the 'large' number of development projects implemented under Majesty King Abdullah II's directives in the 13 refugee camps in the Kingdom, he added.
With regard to UNRWA, Kharfan noted Jordan's position is 'clear,' which affirms the agency's mandate and support at all international forums to help it fulfill its obligations towards millions of Palestinian refugees.
The international conferences held under the joint Jordanian-Swedish sponsorship reflect support for mobilizing necessary funding for UNRWA, he said.
Held biannually, the meetings bring together Jordan, Palestine, Egypt, Lebanon, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and Arab League.
