Woman charged with manslaughter in connection with alleged stabbing death of man
The Criminal Court prosecutor has charged a 35-year-old woman with manslaughter in connection with the alleged stabbing death of a man in Amman over the holiday weekend, official sources said on Tuesday.
The 40-year-old victim was reportedly stabbed by the suspect, who is a street vendor, around 4am in the Hussein neighbourhood on Sunday, a senior judicial source said.
“Our initial investigations indicated that the suspect stabbed the victim following a heated argument,” the senior judicial source told The Jordan Times.
The source added that “a witness saw two people arguing and a woman stabbing a man in the street”.
“The suspect, who sells tea and has a criminal record, confessed to the stabbing incident and informed investigators that she knew the victim briefly,” the senior judicial source maintained.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival from a single stab wound to the heart, a second official source said.
Meanwhile, investigators and crime scene experts retrieved a knife and sent it to the crime lab for further examination, the source stated.
Investigators are trying to learn more about the incident and will question the victim and the suspect’s friends and relatives, the second source told The Jordan Times.
The woman was ordered detained at a correctional and rehabilitation centre for 15 days pending further investigations, according to the second source.
