Energy regulatory body, IAEA hold workshop on nuclear safeguards
The Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC) on Saturday kicked off a workshop on nuclear safeguards, in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The workshop, which brought together IAEA experts and participants from the regulatory commission and the Jordan Research and Training Reactor, contributes to boosting capacities to establish and sustain the effectiveness of regulatory bodies and operators in the field of nuclear material control and accounting through preparing reports and inspections under the Convention on Nuclear Safety and the Additional Protocol, the commission said in a press release.
IAEA participants commended the level of participants in the training course and the advanced level Jordan has achieved in this field.
The training is part of the Nuclear Safeguards Initiative with the IAEA, which aims to help countries to enhance and sustain the effectiveness of state authorities responsible for implementing nuclear safeguards, and part of the Kingdom's obligations under the Nuclear Safeguards Agreement and Additional Protocol signed with the IAEA.
