ACI's jewelry industry exports in 1st qtr 2022 stood at JD180mln-Jaghbir
Exports of Amman industrial businesses operating in the jewelry sector amounted to JD180 million during the January-March period 2022.
During the first quarter, the U.S. was the top destination for jewelry exports overseen by Amman Chamber of Industry (ACI), with a value of about JD158 million, followed by the United Arab Emirates by JD7 million and then Italy by JD4 million.
ACI Chairman, Fathi Jaghbir, said the increase in Amman's jewelry exports is a 'positive' indication, which shows Jordanian industry has begun to diversify its export products, taking advantage of their 'high quality and competitiveness.'
In a statement to 'Petra,' on Saturday, he stressed the necessity of optimizing the industrial sector's benefit from Jordan's trade agreements with many global economic blocs, which would contribute to diversifying the base of exported goods abroad.
To date, the number of ACI-registered businesses operating in the jewelry industry stands at 126, which provided 1,601 job opportunities, according to the chambers' data.
In addition, ACI total exports to various countries worldwide rose during the first quarter 2022 by 57% to reach JD2.216 billion, compared to JD1.416 billion for the same period last year, the data showed.
