Tourism income at $1.2bln in first tertile of 2022
Jordan's tourism revenue stood at $1.213 billion in the first tertile of 2022, an increase of $870 million, or 252 percent, compared to the corresponding period of last year, after the number of tourists spiked by 791,000, amounting to 1.5 million tourists.
In April of the current year, tourism revenue spiked by $230 million, or 256 percent, compared to the same month of 2021, reaching $320 million.
According to data released Monday by the Central Bank of Jordan, the growth in revenue on a monthly level was mainly driven by an increase in the number of tourists by about 207,000, amounting to a total of 278,000 tourists.
The figures indicated that tourism revenue from non-resident Jordanians constituted 33.3 percent of the overall income, followed by Arab countries (except the Arab Gulf countries) with a 24.6 percent contribution, Gulf countries with 21 percent, and European countries with 11.3 percent.
