'My boss makes us pay a monthly membership fee to drink the water'
An unhappy employee took to Reddit to complain about their boss after spotting a note attached to the water cooler at their work which said they would have to pay to use it.
The 'world's worst boss' has been slammed online for supposedly restricting the use of the water cooler in their office.
A disgruntled worker made the claim that their boss makes them pay a monthly fee to drink the cold water in a post on Reddit.
The boss, believed to be US-based, makes staff pay $5 (£3.80) a month as part of what they call a 'water club,' according to a picture of the sign attached to the appliance, reports Daily Star.
The sign reads: 'Hello water drinker.
'If you would like to enjoy this delicious POLAND SPRING WATER please see Sandra or Michelle to get signed up to the very cool WATER CLUB.
'This water ain’t free yo.
'Members are currently enjoying unlimited refills for $5 per month.'
Since being posted, the picture has received more than 72,000 upvotes and 4,500 comments from users who were stunned by the note.
One person wrote in response: “‘Ain’t free yo’ - the most professional words in the workplace.”
Another added: “For $60 (£45) a year that water would better cure cancer.'
A third added: 'I would just simply get water from it anyways, lol. What are they gonna do? Fire you for drinking water?'
Other Reddit users weighed in with similar workplace stories.
One man said: “So at the school I used to work at we had a water club because the tap water sucked.
“We get a new superintendent who decides (in what was basically the one and only cool thing he did as superintendent) that he would just cover the cost of water.
“This led to the discovery that the school secretary had been lying about how much water cost, overcharging everyone, and pocketing the difference.
“THAT led to the discovery that she had been skimming money from about a dozen other sources around the school too - all to feed her massive gambling addiction!”
This comes after a woman lashed out at her boss for how they treated her after her mum died.
The woman shared a screenshot of the text exchange between the pair on her TikTok ( @thatcountryahhblackgirl ).
The picture showed a previous message from the woman's boss - it reads: 'Hey I heard about your mom passing. I'm sorry for your loss. I can't imagine how you must feel.
'Let me know if you need anything. I'm here for you!'
Grateful, the woman thanked her boss. But then she got a message asking whether she would be coming to work...
