Jordan partakes in 9th meeting of UN-GGIM: Arab States in KSA
Jordan on Tuesday participated in the 9th Plenary Virtual Meeting of the Regional Committee of the United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management for Arab States.
Director-General of the Royal Jordanian Geographic Center (RJGC), Col. Eng. Muammar Kamel Haddadin, represented Jordan at the meeting as Vice-Chairman of the Committee.
In the meeting, which was held in the Saudi Arabia via teleconference, Haddadin stressed the need to leverage advanced technologies 'in order to bring good and benefits for our country and humanity in general, and support the sustainable development process.'
Haddadin highlighted the RJGC major development, which led to the modernization of production, research and training process system. It also worked on activating the geospatial portal (the geoportal) as a platform for exchanging geographical data and aerial and satellite images with various state institutions, and facilitating the mechanism for exchanging geospatial information between institutions.
The meeting discussed ways of cooperation between the committee member states on Geospatial Information Management and the importance of sharing experiences and expertise of countries in a way that contributes to achieving sustainable development goals in the same field.
The meeting discussed annual report of the (UN-GGIM: Arab States) in addition to the contributions of United Nations and international organizations in furthering the Geospatial Information Management agenda.
