Temperatures to dip below average as depression deepen Thursday
The impact of a depression and cold air mass currently affecting Jordan will deepen on Thursday, with mercury levels marking 9-10 degrees below average, bringing biting cold weather with rain, thunder and hail, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said in its daily update.
A slight chance of light snow showers in high mountainous areas is also expected, with northwesterly strong winds, stirring dust in the Baida.
The weather department warned of the danger of flood formation in the valleys and low lying-areas, slippery roads in areas experiencing rainfall, low visibility due to fog over mountainous areas, and of dust-raising winds in the Badia.
Similar chilly weather will persist on Friday, with heavy downpour, thunder, hail and light snow, while winds will be westerly moderate to brisk. At night, the impact of the cold air mass will subside but frost will be formed in many areas.
Saturday will see a slight rise in temperatures, bringing cold weather in most parts of the country while it will be pleasant in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and Aqaba. Clouds will appear at low altitudes in the northern and central regions, with northwesterly moderate to brisk winds.
Mercury in the capital Amman today will range between a high of 8 degrees Celsius and a low of 2C at night, while the port city of Aqaba will see a fair 17C, sliding to 10C at night.
