Media minister: National media have key role in local elections
State Minister for Media Affairs Faisal Shboul Tuesday highlighted the national media's role in the coverage of governorate and municipal council elections and promoting popular participation in decision-making through the ballot box.
During a tour of media outlets, including Jordan Radio and Television Corporation, Petra News Agency, Al Mamlaka Television, Al Raya Media Group and the Independent Election Committee (IEC) media centre, the minister called for providing all necessary facilities for the media, which he called a key part of the election observation mission.
He hailed the IEC for giving journalists free access to polling stations to provide up-to-the-minute reporting on the electoral process and results and highlight 'this democratic exercise.'
Shboul noted that the polls came as Jordan witnessed development of legislation in all domains, which began with the Committee to Modernize the Political System that was followed by the Committee to Modernize the Public Sector and the national economic workshop.
