Agreement signed to enhance Madaba’s tourism capacity
The Department of Antiquities and the University of Perugia’s Department of Humanities on Monday signed an agreement related to the technical operation of the “Discovery of Madaba: A Sustainable-Tourism Project”, which is concerned with improving the governorate’s tourism capacity.
In the presence of Tourism Minister Nayef Fayez, the agreement was signed by Fadi Al Balaawi, Director of the Department of Antiquities and Andrea Polcaro, representative from the University of Perugia, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Fayez highlighted the importance of the existing partnership between the Department of Antiquities and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), lauding Italy’s support for preserving cultural heritage.
The “Discovery of Madaba: A Sustainable-Tourism Project, the AICS-funded project aims to improve local institutions’ capacity to preserve, enhance and manage cultural heritage.
Under the new agreement, the project aims to promote the sustainable development of tourism in Madaba and combine capacity-building, the establishment of a new tourism pathway, as well as the improvement local tourist facilities in order to increase tourist flows and the average length of stay in the region, Petra added.
