Sports back-to-normal during month of Ramadan –– Stakeholders
The fasting month of Ramadan will see sporting and youth activities returning to pre-pandemic levels, as the government announced it is lifting almost all coronavirus restrictions that hit hard all sectors, according to stakeholders.
Sports federations and the Ministry of Youth have put the final touches for tournaments, matches and sporting events during the holy month, including the largest five-a-side football tournament across the Kingdom's governorates, districts and villages with 1,040 teams contesting 1,062 matches that will see prizes awarded for the first time.
The Jordan Football Association also announced the launch of the pro football league competitions during Ramadan, with 12 clubs participating for the most prestigious national footballing title, in addition to the Cup Winners' Cup final match.
The return of sports is exciting news for the youth, who were denied that opportunity by the coronavirus and who waited for two years for a return to normal life, football coach Khaled Al-Khatib told Petra.
Mahmoud Rashdan, member of Al-Hussein Sport Club/Irbid board, said that young people yearn for the return of sports life to normal during holy Ramadan, stressing the need to gear the energies of youth towards sports and meaningful activities. Holding professional league matches is an ideal opportunity to attend special Ramadan football evenings, he said.
Taekwondo Head Coach Faris Assaf said Everyone is excited for sporting events to return during Ramadan after a two-year hiatus, adding that his teams will return to competition after the relaxing of Covid-19 restrictions.
Earlier, State Minister for Media Affairs Faisal Shboul announced the lifting of more Covid-19 restrictions and said that facial coverings in open areas will no longer be required.
