A meeting was held on Sunday between the National Agricultural Research Center (NARC), the Ministry of Water and Irrigation and the British University of Oxford to discuss cooperation.
According to a NARC statement, the center's Director-General Nizar Haddad said the meeting aims at linking, cooperating and exchanging expertise between the three parties.
Since its establishment, the NARC has always been committed to adopting modern technologies and finding new resources by leveraging the outcomes of scientific research and working alongside national and international partners, he noted. He stressed that the center is also committed to benefiting from the University of Oxford's expertise in propping up and developing scientific research.
For his part, the ministry's Secretary-General Jihad Mahamid commended the NARC's leading role in research and agriculture, highlighting that scientific research calls for expanding partnerships and merging theory with practice.
During the meeting, Mahamid presented the challenges facing the water sector under increased demand, decreased number of water sources, and increased energy costs and operational and maintenance costs, as well as other challenges such as climate change, which had a major negative impact on the annual rainfall average over the past few years.
