Work underway to launch mechanism to improve electric grid performance, reduce power outages-Kharabsheh
Work is underway to develop a mechanism to improve performance of Jordan's electricity distribution companies’ grids, reduce power outages and lower power failure repair periods to ensure sustainability of electric current supply and hold the incompetent entities accountable, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Saleh Kharabsheh, said.
Speaking during a meeting Saturday, to discuss performance indicators of electricity distribution companies during the recent weather conditions, Kharabsheh noted work is underway to find a mechanism that commits sector companies to improve performance, especially during exceptional and emergency cases.
The minister also stressed the importance of the electricity distribution companies' commitment to ensuring security of the electricity supply and its sustainability.
Referring to the power outages that occurred during the recent weather conditions as 'unacceptable,' he noted performance indicators should be established to address shortcomings and improve efficacy.
The minister said the mechanism, which will be issued by the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC), will feature performance indicators, criteria mainly aimed to enhance service quality and cooperation of companies operating in the sector to deal with emergency situations.
