Minister of Water and Irrigation says national water carrier project "making major headway"
Minister of Water and Irrigation Muhammad Najjar on Wednesday said that the National Water Carrier Project is 'making a major headway' in terms of technicalities and tender development, expecting the bid's documents to be forwarded to prequalified consortiums by mid March.
The minister's remarks came a day after a meeting with potential international financiers at the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation. He said that prospective bidders will submit their bids in August as a final step before financial closure.
According to Najjar, yesterday's meeting was 'productive and constructive,' saying that the participants 'expressed their willingness to provide all forms of support and in different ways' to enable Jordan to implement this national project that will supply 300 million cubic meters of water annually to all governorates of the Kingdom.
He pointed out that the Islamic Investment Bank, the European Investment Bank, Germany's KfW Development Bank, the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the French Development Agency, the International Finance Corporation, the German Bank for International Cooperation, and other institutions participated in the meeting.
