IEC green lights campaigning for municipal, governorates elections
The Independent Election Commission (IEC) on Sunday gave the go-ahead for campaigning for the next municipal and governorates councils elections and demanded hopefuls to observe Covid-related protocols in their canvassing.
Candidate registration for the March elections will open Monday, Feb. 7th through Feb. 9th. In a statement, the IEC said the candidates must ensure their campaigning centers rise to the highest infection-control criteria and must provide on-premises sterilization as well as face masks.
Also, gatherings exceeding the thresholds currently in place are not allowed, the IEC indicated, demanding candidates not to serve foods or beverages except for bottled water. Moreover, the electoral body are required to ensure distance seating in their campaigning centers which must be properly ventilated.
