Jordan’s trade surplus with US stands at $1.384 billion-AmCham
Jordan's trade balance surplus with the United States during the January-November period 2021 stood at $1.384 billion, according to the President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Jordan (AmCham), Mohammad Batayneh.
Jordan's exports during the first 11 months 2021 nearly reached $2.5 billion, compared to $1,120 billion in imports, Batayneh said in his interview with 'Petra' on Saturday.
Batayneh noted garment and textile industries' products are the top Jordanian exports to the American market, followed by engineering, foodstuffs, Dead Sea products, and jewelry.
Jordan has started to export its services online via digital economy transactions, whether in engineering or information areas, which would have a 'significant' impact on Jordanian exports in the coming years, he pointed out.
Jordanian-American relations are 'getting closer than ever before,' thanks to efforts made by His Majesty King Abdullah II and his 'distinguished' relations with Washington, he said, lauding US support to the Kingdom to address 'difficult' economic conditions, he noted.
Jordan was the first Arab country to sign a free trade agreement (FTA) with United States in 2000, which fully entered into force in January 2010.
