Jordanian businessmen and Syrian officials have said that they hope that the two-way trade between Syria and Jordan would return to pre-Syrian crisis levels, calling for cooperation in the sectors of information technology, energy, renewable energy, medical tourism and transit trade.
The call came during a meeting Tuesday between a delegation from the Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC) and Syria's Internal Trade and Consumer Protection Minister Amr Salem on the sidelines of a Jordanian trade and services fair currently underway in Damascus.
According to a JCC statement, the Chamber's Chairman, Nael Kabariti, and a number of members of its board of directors discussed with the Syrian minister prospects for Jordanian-Syrian partnerships to provide various goods and services in the two countries' markets at competitive prices and high quality.
The two sides also agreed to continue holding joint exhibitions to promote the products of the two countries and network between business owners, and to overcome any obstacles to the flow of goods in both directions.
The Syrian minister praised the Jordanian-Syrian relations, saying that they are 'brotherly before they are commercial,' stressing that Damascus is committed to removing the difficulties and obstacles that hinder the strengthening of bilateral cooperation and advancing it to broader horizons.
Salem stressed the importance of the two countries cooperating in the ICT sector and for his country to leverage Jordanian expertise in this field, especially in light of Syria's move towards 'digitization' and electronic billing, calling for a Jordanian ICT fair in Syria.
For his part, Kabariti said that the Jordanian trade and services sector is committed to building strategic relations and real partnerships with Syria to achieve common interests, stressing that both countries maintain strong ties.
