Deputizing for His Majesty King Abdullah II, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Local Administration Tawfiq Krishan, attended a ceremony to announce winners of the Distinguished Municipality Award in its first session.
During the ceremony, which was attended by Marwan Jumaa, Vice-President of the Board of Trustees of the King Abdullah II Center for Excellence, awards were handed over to winners from Jordanian municipalities and municipal CEOs and workers.
Krishan stressed His Majesty King Abdullah II's attention paid to municipalities and municipal work and affirmed the need to support them to reach a 'distinguished' administrative level.
The award aims to motivate municipalities to play their role 'effectively' in development work and employment, as well as maintaining cleanliness of Jordanian cities, according to Krishan.
The minister said the award seeks to enable municipalities to meet citizens' expectations to offer government services at a 'better' quality in accordance with 'best' practices for institutional excellence.
This step, moreover, creates 'positive' competition among municipalities to provide the best services, increase the municipality’s role in achieving decentralization, promoting a culture of good governance, increasing citizen confidence, and raising the level of performance of municipal employees, he pointed out.
