About half of surveyed Jordanians expressed confidence in the Royal Committee to Modernise the Political System (RCMPS), according to the results of a recent poll, which was announced on Monday.
The poll, conducted by the Centre for Strategic Studies at the University of Jordan (CSS), examined citizens’ opinion over the output of the RCMPS from November 15 to 21, on a sample representing the Jordanian community from all governorates, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
The results revealed that 49 per cent of the surveyed expressed confidence in the RCMPS, after it submitted its output to His Majesty King Abdullah, marking an increase of 17 points, compared with the previous poll conducted on September 19, and an increase of 11 points against the survey that took place on July 26.
Fifty-one per cent of young Jordanians between the ages of 18 and 34 expressed confidence in the Royal committee.
About 49 per cent of the respondents expressed optimism about the outcomes of the committee, compared with 31 per cent registered in September’s poll. Some 57 per cent of young Jordanians between the ages of 18 and 34 expressed optimism about the output.
More than half of Jordanians, 53 per cent, believe that the outputs of the RCMPS will achieve a shift towards the desired political reform in Jordan, and 29 per cent of Jordanians said that the outcomes are different from the outputs of the previous committees related to political reform, while 25 per cent believe that there is no difference.
The majority of respondents, at 46 per cent, said they do not know if the outputs of this committee differ from the outputs of the previous committees, Petra added.
Twenty-nine per cent of the surveyed citizens said that the outcomes related to the Parliamentary Elections Law are the most important outputs of the Royal committee, specifically the proposed amendments related to empowering youth and reducing the age of candidacy.
Fifteen per cent of the surveyed believe that recommendations related to youth are the most important, and 11 per cent believe that the outputs over the law governing political parties are the most important ones.
On the recommendations related to the law governing political parties, the results showed that 16 per cent of Jordanians said that they wish to join political parties.
