Director General of the Jordanian Department of Statistics (DoS) Shaher Shawabka was chosen Tuesday as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Arab Institute for Training and Research in Statistics (AITRS) in its next session.
Shawabka said in opening remarks at the AITRS fourth session that Jordan, represented by the DoS, will continue supporting the institute and Arab statistics departments to carry out various statistical activities, enhance Arab economic, social and environment development and help build programmes and policies of decision makers.
In a statement, Shawabkeh thanked outgoing Director General of the AITRS, Hedi Saidi, for his efforts to enhance the institute's work and support Arab statistics departments.
He commended Arab statistics departments in their efforts to provide the statistical community with data that is necessary to deal with Covid-19 challenges and make decisions to mitigate the repercussions of the pandemic.
The annual meeting will tackle a host of issues, top of which are the AITRS budget and strategies for the coming years, as well as ways and means of boosting the capacities of Arab statistics departments.
