China supports Jordan's participation in Belt & Road Initiative, says ambassador
Chinese ambassador in Amman Chen Chuandong on Thursday said his country backs up Jordan's participation in the Belt and Road Initiative and called for 'seizing new development opportunities between the two countries to take bilateral relations to a new level'.
The ambassador made the remarks during a meeting organized by the embassy on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
Chen underlined the importance of strengthening strategic communication between the two countries to expand friendship and deepen win-win cooperation.
He indicated that China was ready to 'align' development strategies with the Jordanian side, enhance complementary benefits, and deepen cooperation in areas of energy, communications, infrastructure construction, and production capacity, in addition to encouraging investment in Jordan.
'Jordan is a country with a unique position and important influence in the Middle East and an important regional partner,' Chen said, emphasizing that his country was ready to work with other Arab countries, including Jordan, to make the first China-Arab Summit in 2022 an opportunity to enhance its strategy and actions, and join hands to move ahead with the 'Belt and Road Initiative'.
On the other hand, he pointed out that a just and reasonable solution to the Palestinian issue is a prerequisite for achieving lasting peace and security in the Middle East, noting that both Beijing and Amman adhere to justice and peace, and firmly support the just Palestinian demands.
In this context, he called for strengthening communication and coordination on regional issues such as the Palestinian issue, unifying efforts to promote peace, and contributing to solving the problems of the century.
For his part, Director of Asian Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ambassador Malek Twal, expressed the ministry’s congratulations on the CPC 100th anniversary, highlighting Jordanian-Sino ties which span over more than 50 years and are moving at a rapid pace thanks to the directives of the wise leadership in the two countries.
He also voiced Jordan's appreciation for China's position in supporting the peace process, as well as for supporting the Kingdom with vaccines against the coronavirus.
