Jordan and UNRWA Monday discussed the preparations undertaken ahead of a slated conference co-organized by Jordan and Sweden to secure funding for the UN agency.
Jordan's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi and UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini in a meeting in Amman that the 'important' conference that will take place later this year would adopt strategies and plans to guarantee continued support for the agency to allow it to carry out its mandate.
The talks emphasized the importance of rebuilding Gaza, which had been decimated after an 11-day Israeli military campaign that killed over 244 people, including 65 children. He said the needs of the battered Palestinians in Gaza must be 'urgently' addressed.
In turn, Lazzarini praised Jordan for its support for UNRWA and its efforts to galvanize financial support so that it keeps carrying out its mandate of supporting Palestinian refugees.
