Surfing the internet reading the daily Jordanian newspapers, my heart stood aghast of these titles: “A Horrible Filicide Case: Two Daughters Were Slain by Their Father!”, “A Parenticide Case: A Man Shot His Dad!”, “A Matricide Case: A Man Stabbed His Mum Ferociously to Death”. I felt that my heart shrunk smaller and smaller to the size that it could slip between my ribcage bones out of my chest to burst furiously shouting “save our community”.
This social epidemic is not a novel one for humanity, but it is for the Jordanian society. It has a distressingly spacious prevalence in our society. The dawn broke early on the Earth with a fratricide case, when one of Adam’s, peace be upon him, sons killed his brother in a fit of jealousy as it is mentioned in The Holy Quran:
(Section 5:27) “Recite to them the truth of the story of the two sons of Adam. Be hold! They each presented a sacrifice (to god): it was accepted from one, but not from the other. Said the latter: “Be sure I will slay thee” “Surely,” Said the former, “God Doth accept the sacrifice of those who are righteous.”
28) “If thou dost stretch thy hand against me, to slay me, it is not for me to stretch my hand against thee: for I do fear God, the Cherisher of the worlds.”
29) “For me, I intend to let thee draw on thyself my sin as well as thine, for thou wilt be among the companions of the fire, and that is the reward of those who do wrong.”
30) The (selfish) soul of the other led him to the murder of his brother: he murdered him, and became (himself) one of the lost ones.
During the Creek Era, Sophocles, a prominent dramatist, wrote his masterpiece ' Oedipus The King' in which he narrated how Parenticide crime was committed as a result of ignorance and anger, and this could be the first Parenticide case on the Earth.
To have a close look into these both old crimes, it is mainly clear that unfaith, jealousy, ignorance and anger are the core reasons behind these first killing crimes on the Earth. This leads us to paramount interrogations: what are reasons behind this new social phenomenon in the Jordanian society? What changes have happened into the fabric of Jordanian society conduct to this kind of crimes? Incontrovertibly lack of faith, deviation from moral rectitude, poverty and exhausted economical aspects, unemployment, drugs, parenting ignorance of families' affairs are the key causes for such crimes in our society.
By defining the root causes of a problem, solutions will be founded. Therefore, all the public and private institutions and sectors must work cooperatively on integrated plans in order to put solutions into practice. The role of the religious institutions must be interconnected with social, educational, and economical ones. Moreover, It is every Jordanian citizen's duty and responsibility, especially the youth, to find an end for this horrible social phenomenon.
Our society is on the edge of falling apart, unless a comprehensive study to stop root causes behind these crimes, then building a well-organized and practical plan to save our society. From this platform I have the chance to say 'save our community'.
