Minister of Labor and Minister of State for Investment Affairs, Maen Qatamin, met Monday with European Union (EU) Ambassador in Jordan, Maria Hadjitheodosiou, for a discussion on ways of joint cooperation between the ministry and the EU mission in the Kingdom.

During the meeting, Qatamin highlighted training and rehabilitation projects that the ministry offers to provide young people with job opportunities that match requirements of the labor market, including the 'Tawkeed project', which aims to ensure economic sectors and activities keep operations and avoid new curfews and lockdowns due to the corona (Covid-19) pandemic.

He added that the 'Tawkeed' project employs health protection observers in private sector establishments, after training and qualifying them for this purpose, and their task is to ensure the facilities' compliance with health measures to stop the spread of the coronavirus, indicating that this project provides more than 4,000 jobs in the private sector.

The minister stressed the need to train young people for non-traditional jobs such as digital jobs that provide job opportunities not only for residents of the capital, but also open the door for young men and women in various governorates of the Kingdom who face some challenges in obtaining jobs.

He added that the ministry is working, through the Vocational Training Corporation (VTC) and the Technical and Vocational Skills Development Commission (TVSD), to increase the attractiveness of professional and technical work that provides new job opportunities according to the changing requirements of the labor market, in addition to empowering them with the skills needed for each profession.

Qatamin noted that the ministry is keen to implement the labor law to regulate the labor market and ensure that employers provide a safe work environment for workers.

Ambassador Hadjitheodosiou, in turn, underlined the importance of supporting training and employment programs provided by the government to provide job opportunities for young people, in addition to training labor inspectors to ensure a safe work environment for women to increase Jordan's benefit from the EU's rules of origin.
