The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has condemned the continued excavations at the entrance to the Cemetery of Martyrs in occupied East Jerusalem.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, the ministry’s spokesperson, Dhaifallah Fayez, affirmed the Kingdom’s rejection and condemnation of the excavations and leveling works carried out by the Israeli authorities at the cemetery's fence and stairs, calling on Televiv to immediately stop its operations.
Warning against the continuation, expansion of these actions, or any similar digging works inside the cemetery, Fayez called on the Israeli authorities, the occupying power in occupied East Jerusalem, to respect the sanctity of graves and shrines and to stop violations and provocations.
Moreover, Fayez stressed the Kingdom's rejection of unilateral Israeli measures aimed at changing the identity of Arab Jerusalem, which constitutes a 'flagrant' violation of international law, international humanitarian law and the resolutions of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
