Minister of State for Media Affairs and the government spokesperson, Ali Al-Ayed, on Tuesday said that the coronavirus pandemic demonstrated the importance of the awareness role entrusted to the media, with its various tools, especially during crises.
Al-Ayed made his remarks via teleconference in the opening session of the fourth session of the symposium on Chinese-Arab cooperation in the field of media organized by the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States (Media and Communication Sector - Media Department).
'Jordan, in light of economic challenges and implications imposed by the coronavirus pandemic, is looking forward to increasing the role of media in development by stimulating qualitative and innovative content and platforms, in many areas, including health awareness of ways of prevention from Covid-19, and establish health habits in the post-pandemic phase,' Al-Ayed said.
He also stressed the importance of the media's role in educating young people to engage in agricultural activity, and to establish a positive image of agricultural work and its human and environmental importance, as well as the tourism sector, by devoting qualities and ideas that make the citizen working in the various fields of tourism a global citizen, familiar with and appreciating various cultures and their characteristics.
Al-Ayed participated in the opening session of the symposium along with Saudi Minister of Information Majid Al-Qasabi, head of the Arab side, Head of the Information Office of the State Council of the People's Republic of China (Minister of Information) Xi Lin, Minister of State for Egyptian Information Osama Heikal, Bahraini Minister of Information Ali Al-Rumaihi, and Lebanese Minister of Information, Manal Abdel Samad, in addition to the Assistant Secretary General - Head of the Media and Communication Sector at the League of Arab States Ambassador, Qais Al-Azzawi.
