Health official : CDC's assessment of Jordan as high-risk COVID-19 country is 'biased'
AMMONNEWS - With the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) classifying Jordan as a COVID-19 high-risk country, a health official has described the US's health protection agency's assessment as 'biased and unreasonable'.
In its latest update, the CDC has put Jordan on the US's 'high risk' travel list, advising people to avoid all nonessential international travel to the Kingdom.
'Travelers at increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19 should consider postponing all travel, including essential travel, to Jordan. COVID-19 risk in Jordan is high. If you get sick in Jordan and need medical care, resources may be limited,' the CDC has said in its website.
In remarks to Ammon News Website, National Anti-Pandemic Committee member Jamal al-Ramahi said the CDC's assessment is 'unreasonable and has a lot of geographical bias.'
'Jordan is globally acknowledged as among the least-affected countries by the coronavirus and there is a big difference in the number of COVID-19 cases and deaths between Jordan and the US,' al-Ramahi said.
However, al-Ramahi described the Covid-19 situation in Jordan as “cautiously' under control in light of the rise in the number of the locally transmitted Covid-19 cases. 'But the situation is not worrying still.'
The health official urged Jordanians to adhere to precautionary measures, mainly wearing face masks and maintaining physical distancing and avoiding holding large gatherings.
