Jordan's COVID-19 testing well beyond WHO recommendations
AMMONNEWS - Jordan has been ramping up COVID-19 testing over the past few months and managed to double the number of daily tests at rates well beyond those recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO), a top infectious diseases official said on Wednesday.
The target set by the WHO is 20,000 tests per 1 million people, but Jordan has managed to push this ratio to 70,000 tests per 1 million persons, Director of the Communicable Diseases Directorate at the Ministry of Health, Hadeel Saeh, told Petra.
She revealed that the ministry will soon procure a state-of-the-art machine that can handle 4,600 swab tests in a few hours, which will help further ramp up testing capacity and contain the disease.
At the onset of the pandemic, there were only two-strong 30 epidemiological investigation teams, Saeh said, adding that now there is a large number of teams enough to cover the various parts of the Kingdom.
