16 local Covid-19 cases, 5 recoveries reported on Monday
AMMONNEWS - Twenty new infections with the novel the coronavirus (Covid-19), including 16 local cases, were reported on Monday in the Kingdom, bringing the caseload since the outbreak of the pandemic to 1398.
According to Health Minister, Saad Jaber, the new infections include 2 cases for Jordanians residing in quarantine-designated hotels from Saudi Arabia and the United States, 2 other cases for truck drivers, who tested positive for Covid-19 at the Al-Omari border crossing, 4 cases in northern governorate of Irbid, 9 case reported in Amman for contacts of a confirmed Covid-19 case, 2 cases in the Balqa' governorate (northwest of Amman) and one case in the Zarqa governorate (east of Amman).
Jaber added that 5 patients, residing in the quarantine-designated area in the Dead Sea, have recovered during the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1258, stressing that sources of all cases are known.
Additionally, 6171 Covid-19 laboratory tests were conducted, bringing the total number of tests conducted since the start of the pandemic in the Kingdom to 698,931, Jaber noted.
122 local cases of the coronavirus, the minister indicated, have been reported in the Kingdom since Friday.
Jaber called on citizens to download the 'Aman' application that helps detecting and tracking contacts of people infected with the novel virus as well as assisting epidemiological investigation teams, noting that the app sends three types of alerts; one alert when approaching the infected person a distance of two to three meters, an alert when approaching a distance of less than two meters and the third alert when touching and approaching very closely, then it will directly send a request to visit health authorities.
The health minister said that epidemiological investigation teams, in cooperation with the security bodies and specialized authorities, are making great efforts in combating the pandemic, noting that in order to achieve the desired goal from the 'Aman' application, more than 20 percent of the population must download it on their mobile phones.
He said that the commitment of citizens, avoiding gatherings, physical distancing, and wearing masks help controlling the virus, as the Kingdom is at an important turning point in the battle against the pandemic.
Jaber indicated that there is no intention for imposing full or partial lockdown due to the significant economic and social cost 'and we will only to isolate cities and buildings in which a number of infections are recorded.'
Jaber further called on citizens to adhere to public and preventive safety measures, follow the utmost precaution and caution, adhere to measures of prevention and precaution, and wearing masks before entering public places, including ministries, public departments and institutions, and before entering places where direct services are provided to the public, as defense orders include companies, institutions, facilities, shopping malls, stores, medical clinics and health centers.
On unifying the media sourcebook, Jaber said that the ministry has issued a circular to health directors not to announce Covid-19 cases in order to avoid confusing the media landscape, stressing that the correct numbers are announced via the daily briefing or the press conference.
