Ramtha lockdown goes into force, humanitarian cases, sick exempted
AMMONNEWS - The decision to place Ramtha under lockdown and isolate the northern district from the rest of the Kingdom after a rise in coronavirus infections came into effect at 8:00 am Monday, and licenses will be granted to humanitarian cases and the sick, according to Irbid Governor Radwan Atoum.
He told Petra in an interview that joint forces from the Jordan Armed Forces- Arab Army, the Gendarmerie and police were deployed at 6 key entrance points to enforce the isolation order which was announced on Thursday by Director of the Coronavirus Crisis Cell Operations, Brig. Gen. Mazen Al-Faraya.
Atoum said that the closure, which also isolates the district from border crossings, bars movement to and from the district from 8 am to 6 am on a daily basis until an order lifting the closure is issued.
Meanwhile, the Land Transport Regulatory Commission announced a halt to public transport in Ramtha and routes linking the district to the Irbid Governorate and the rest of the Kingdom.
Irbid Industry and Trade director, Abdul Halim Al-Jamra, also said that Ramtha had sufficient flour supplies before the isolation order went into effect, adding that Minister of Industry and Trade instructions aim to ensure sustainable supply and production chains and allow holders of licenses to enter the district to supply food, medicine and energy.
