Safadi meets EU ambassador, UN organizations' representatives
AMMONNEWS - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, stressed the importance of the international community's solidarity with Lebanon to help face the consequences of the tragic explosion that struck Beirut port last week.
The Kingdom, upon His Majesty King Abdullah II's directives, stands by the Lebanese people with all its capabilities and has dispatched urgent aid and a field hospital to contribute to treating the injured people, according to Safadi.
Speaking during his meeting on Sunday with the European Union ambassador and EU countries' representatives to Jordan, Safadi expressed the Kingdom's full readiness to cooperate with the EU's nations in delivering aid to Lebanon via Jordan.
During the meeting, Safadi said the Kingdom will harness all the necessary capabilities to the UN organizations to support operations aimed to support Lebanon and help address the blast's catastrophic repercussions.
The FM noted the King's directives aim to provide all possible assistance to Lebanon to overcome the current tragic circumstances, including the support to UN bodies to support their programs in Lebanon and their efforts to help it overcome this crisis.
Moreover, the FM stressed the importance of the Jordanian-UN partnership in economic and social development programs, aimed to meet the refugees' needs and providing a decent life to them.
The FM also stressed the importance of the UN bodies' efforts, adding the the Kingdom is keen to develop joint partnership.
Safadi discussed ways to develop bilateral relations in all fields and underlined the 'strong' Jordanian-EU partnership and Amman's appreciation to the EU support to Jordan.
The meeting also dealt with cooperation in confronting the Covid-19 pandemic and its consequences.
During the meeting, Safadi reviewed regional developments, especially efforts to prevent Israel from implementing its decision to annex Palestinian lands and re-launch 'serious and effective' negotiations to achieve a just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution and in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions.
The FM appreciated the EU’s position rejecting the annexation decision, adhering to international law, and supporting the two-state solution expressed by the High Representative for Foreign Policy in the European Union, Josep Borrell, and many EU countries.
