FM urges int'l stance to halt Israel's annexation plan
AMMONNEWS - The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate, Ayman Safadi, affirmed on Wednesday, the necessity of orchestrating efforts of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to (OIC) mobilize an international position to stop Israel's implementation of its decision to annex a third of the occupied Palestinian state.
In the OIC's open-ended Extraordinary meeting of the Executive Committee, held via videoconferencing, Safadi said the annexation decision would blow up all the foundations on which the peace process was based and would make the one-state option that institutionalizes apartheid an 'inevitable' status quo.
Safadi said the just way of peace is to fulfill all the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, especially their right to freedom and state on the lines of June, 4, 1967, with occupied Jerusalem as its capital.
On Jordan's role, he said the 'historic' custodian of the Islamic and Christian sanctities His Majesty King Abdullah II is harnessing all the Kingdom's potential to protect Jerusalem.
Continuing: 'Protecting Jerusalem and its identity is a collective responsibility and obligation.'
Safadi stressed ending the occupation and establishing the Palestinian state on the basis of a two-state solution is the only way to achieve peace.
The meeting, held at the invitation of the state of Palestine, saw the participation of the foreign ministers of the OIC's Executive Committee.
