AMMONNEWS - Minister of Health, Dr. Sa'ad Jaber, Sunday, confirmed 13 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Kingdom to 259.
In a press briefing at the National Center for Security and Crisis Management (NCSCM), Jaber said that the new cases reported today are as follow: a woman who made physical contact with her brother who had come from Egypt, five cases in Irbid, a case that made physical contact with a resident at the Al-Hashemi building, another case reported from the Jordanian Royal Medical Services (JRMS), which had been transferred to the Prince Hamza Hospital, a case at the JRMS that contracted the virus from a person who had attended the Irbid wedding ceremony. Also, two women tested positive for the virus after coming from the UK and a woman whose daughter had come from France also tested positive.
The Minister announced the death of a 77-year-old man from COVID-19 who had passed away in one of the JRMS hospitals, noting that the first death was not officially announced because she had died of other causes (blood poisoning), however 'we consider that there are two cases.'
Regarding not examining the people who were quarantined in Amman and Dead Sea hotels and who will be released tomorrow, Jaber explained, 'This is the international protocol and the majority of the members of the National Epidemic Committee have decided that there is no need to examine them before leaving.'
He added, 'These people will be quarantined for a period of two weeks in their homes, and I urge their families and friends not to visit them, and call on those quarantined upon leaving to abide by the conditions of the in-home quarantine, which they will receive a copy of.'
Jaber pointed out that it was confirmed that 11 people who had left the country were among the group of 190 students, and it turned out that 11 students were infected, adding, 'We are not sure if the infections are from Irbid Governorate, where they go to university or if they contracted the virus abroad.'
He stressed that the epidemiological investigation teams have contacted all those who had made physical contact with the infected, pointing out that so far, 300 will be examined, as the result will be come out tomorrow morning.
