King, UNESCO director general discuss advancing cooperation
AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah, accompanied by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, on Wednesday met with UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay at Al Husseiniya Palace and discussed advancing cooperation between Jordan and UNESCO, especially in safeguarding cultural heritage.
At the meeting, attended by His Royal Highness Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, His Majesty’s chief adviser for religious and cultural affairs and personal envoy, King Abdullah noted UNESCO’s important role in preserving World Heritage Sites in danger, especially the Old City of Jerusalem and its walls.
His Majesty also commended UNESCO’s role in safeguarding heritage sites in Jordan, especially the ancient Nabataean city of Petra, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
For her part, UNESCO Director General Azoulay, who is currently in the Kingdom on her first official visit, highlighted the UN agency’s role around the world, and its cooperation with Jordan, stressing the importance of bolstering this cooperation.
Jordan’s Ambassador to France Makram Queisi and the accompanying UNESCO delegation attended the meeting.
