Senate President to sponsor Palestinians voluntary return campaign
AMMONNEWS - Senate President, Faisal Fayez, on Sunday said he welcomes sponsoring a campaign to be launched next Thursday by the Lower House's Palestine Committee, under the title 'The Return Campaign...My Right, My Decision.'
The campaign aims at collecting a million signatures to reaffirm Palestinian refugees' right to return to their homeland and compensation.
During a meeting with the committee members, Fayez said the right to return is a 'sacred and inalienable' right, pointing to His Majesty King Abdullah's remarks rejecting resettlement and an alternative homeland, which also affirmed that Jerusalem 'is a red line.'
This represents Jordan's 'steadfast and firm' position on this issue, Fayez pointed out.
Jordan, under the leadership of King Abdullah, will always remain an advocate of the Palestinian cause and the right of the brotherly Palestinian people to establish their independent state on the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, he said.
Meanwhile, the committee's head, Yahya Saud, stated the collected signatures will be submitted to the Palestinian Return Centre in the British capital, London, which will in turn deliver it to the United Nations.
