Abbas : Trump's peace plan rejected, measures taken to change PA's functional role
AMMONNEWS - President Mahmoud Abbas said that the Palestinian leadership will immediately start taking all measures that require changing the role of the Palestinian Authority (PA) in implementation of the decisions of the Palestinian Central Council and the Palestinian National Council (PNC) of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).
In a speech to the Palestinian people and the world, Tuesday, and in response to the U.S. President Donald Trump's 'peace plan,' Abbas underscored: 'Jerusalem is not for sale, and all our rights are not for sale and bargaining, and the conspiracy deal will not pass, and our Palestinian people will throw it in the dustbin of history, just as the liquidation and conspiracy projects on our just Palestinian cause have.'
Following a meeting with Palestinian leadership in Ramallah, Abbas said that 'plans to liquidate the Palestinian cause will face failure and demise, and will not deny rights and will not impose a commitment.'
He stressed that the Palestinian strategy is based on the continued struggle to end the Israeli occupation and the embodiment of the independence of the state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Abbas said: 'We heard promising reactions against the Trump plan and we will build on them,' stressing his adherence to international legitimacy as a reference.
Abbas stressed commitment to the Palestinian national principles that were issued by the PNC in 1988.
President Abbas continued: 'We tell the world that we are not terrorist people, and we have never been so,' stressing the commitment of the State of Palestine to fight terrorism, and that the world must understand that the Palestinian people deserve life.
He said, 'We announced legislative and presidential elections, and we still hold on to them, in the West Bank, Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip. The Jerusalemite citizen must cast their vote in the heart of Jerusalem and not outside it.'
'We will start a new phase of Palestinian dialogue and joint action,' he added, stressing that the Palestinian popular resistance will be the title of the next stage to confront the deal.
He affirmed that the Palestinian leadership will continue its efforts toward peace as a strategic option, but at the same time it will not accept having the American administration as the sole mediator for the peace process in the region.
