Cabinet approves pension increase for low-income retirees
AMMONNEWS - The Cabinet on Sunday endorsed an increase on the minimum pension and impairment salary for low-income retirees, as of January 1, 2020, provided that the increase shall be paid retroactively next month.
The increase comes based on a recommendation of the General Organization for Social Insurance (GOSI), and in light of the government's tendency to improve the salaries of both workers and retirees.
The average increase in pensions is approximately JD24 per month, at a total cost of JD23 million annually.
More than 76,000 retirees will benefit from this increase, about 30 percent of the total number of retirees subject to the provisions of the Social Security Law.
GOSI will announce the details of the increase today through a press conference.
